On 20 May 2021, SECID hosted the “Annual Meeting of SEE Countries on Influenza and COVID Surveillance Activities”.The aim of the meeting was to present the challenges of maintaining influenza surveillance during COVID -19 pandemic and how the existing influenza surveillance systems were used during this pandemic.
The main objectives were to:
- Identify the challenges and new solutions for an integrated Influenza and COVID-19 ILI and SARI Sentinel Surveillance System
- Discuss the preparation and implementation of New Sampling Strategy for ILI and SARI Sentinel Sites and how can be used for COVID -19.
- The challenges of laboratory capacities to face the COVID -19 pandemic and maintain Influenza testing and sharing viruses
The meeting was organized via zoom and gathered epidemiologist , virologist from National Influenza Surveillance Unit/Laboratory Centers of the SEE Countries, with the participation of experts from CDC, ECDC, EpiConcept and WHO Euro.
