On 20 May 2014 at the IPH of Kosovo* was held the meeting of sentinel doctors. The doctors were selected from sentinel centers, (Pristina region, Prizren region and NIPH) determined after few criteria: results of evaluation of routine surveillance system, the number of patients and number of population in these regions
This activity took place within the framework of the Project “Surveillance and Response to Avian and pandemic Influenza by National Health Authorities of Countries of South East Europe”.
During the meeting were explain the following issues: the role of sentinel doctors; health facilities and hospitals and their collaboration with public health structures within the framework of Influenza Surveillance; reporting system from sentinel centers (reporting forms and indicators).
Also, it was discussed about the technical issues regarding the functioning of these centers as: case definition (ILI, SARI and ARI), reporting forms, the operational aspects related to sample collection and transportation from the patient to the lab and biosafety, number of samples ( weekly, depends on laboratory capacity).
Responsible persons are also determined for each sentinel center/ institution.
The meeting was very fruitful and all centers are ready for new flu season (2014).
