A workshop on Seasonal Influenza Vaccination in South Eastern Europe took place in Belgrade, Serbia on 13-14 December 2017. This activity organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the South East European Centre for Surveillance and Control of Infectious Diseases (SECID) was the first SEEHN workshop on this topic for Member States of South Eastern Europe Health Network.
The workshop was attended by National focal points in SEE countries for influenza immunization programme and influenza surveillance or procurement of influenza vaccines.
The overall aim of the workshop was to discuss operational issues related to implementation of seasonal influenza vaccination programmes in countries of South Eastern Europe in order to improve the current strategies and to overcome challenges for reaching high vaccination coverage among key target groups.
The specific objectives of the meetings were to:
- Present seasonal influenza vaccination programmes in countries of South Eastern Europe,
- Discuss opportunities and challenges related to increasing vaccination uptake among key target groups
- Present (global/regional) tools to support seasonal influenza vaccination programmes
- Discuss common steps to improve influenza vaccination in SEE region and identify challenges and opportunities to prepare a joint influenza vaccination strategy.
