High threat pathogens preparedness and response workshop for south-eastern European countries has been organised on 23-24 November 2017, in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The aim of the meeting was to analyze and improve the capacities and capabilities of national public health laboratories in countries of eastern and south Eastern Europe to prepare for, and respond to, emerging and imported high threat pathogens.
Specifically, the objectives were to:
- Identify gaps and needs in country laboratory capacities to prepare for and respond to priority high threat pathogens;
- Prioritize the high threat pathogens for South East European Region and actions that could be taken to improve the situation, eg. by expanding or establishing international laboratory networks for preparedness and response to high threat pathogens not covered by existing networks.
- Identify a regional plan of laboratory preparedness for high threats pathogens
Laboratory specialists attended the meeting and also experts from ECDC, CORDS, World Health Organization, Regional Office for Europe, EMERGE, EVD- LabNet and MediLabSecure.
This meeting was jointly organized by WHO/EURO and SECID.
