Epidemiological teleconference (“EpiTel”) in Albania

Meeting in Korca, 17 March 2017

Institute of Public Health of Albania is working to establish a tool for Epidemic Intelligence in Albania through regular weekly Epidemic Telephone -Conferences (EpiTel). This process  is supported by Robert Koch Institute (RKI) Germany. After discussions among IPH epidemiologists and prefectures and main districts epidemiologists about the scope and the organization of such platform, it has been considered to start EpiTel with 12 prefecture and revise it after two years. Korca has been selected as a model to discuss and understand communication and information sharing procedures at district and prefecture level.

On 17 March 2017 in Korca was held a meeting on EpiTel. This meeting  supported by RKI Germany and organized by SECID, aimed to discuss and define a communication pathway from the districts to the prefecture level and vice versa within the EpiTel process and beyond it.

The objectives were:

-To present the national and International sources and how they are compiled at IPH level;

-To present and discuss the information sources at the prefectural level and how they are compiled and presented and sent to IPH;

-To present and discuss the information sources at the district level and how they are compiled and presented and sent to prefecture level or IPH directly;

-To discuss and define a communication procedure process from district to prefecture level and vice versa.

The meeting of Korca followed the meeting of 20-21 December 2016 held in Tirana related the establishment of a tool for Epidemic Telephone -Conferences (EpiTel) in Albania.
