WHO/Europe has been holding annual influenza surveillance meetings jointly with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) since 2011. This meeting brings together epidemiologists and virologists – the national influenza surveillance focal points – from 50 Member States to discuss national, regional and global surveillance related to seasonal influenza and novel influenza viruses, such as avian influenza A(H7N9).
Within the framework of the Project “Surveillance and Response to Avian and pandemic Influenza by National Health Authorities of Countries of South East Europe”, the supervision of influenza sentinel sites was carried out in Montenegro.
This activity took place from 27 May to 5 June 2014, in different health care institutions in Montenegro, such as: General Hospitals; Special Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis; Clinical Centre of Montenegro; Primary Health Care Centers.
“Annual Influenza Meeting of Vet and IPH” took place on the 7th June 2014 in the Korca, Albania, within the framework of the “Surveillance and Response to Avian and pandemic Influenza by National Health Authorities of Countries of South East Europe” Project.
The National Institute of Public Health (INSP), Romania - The National Centre for Communicable Diseases Surveillance and Control, in collaboration with INCDMI Cantacuzino, organized a national workshop for medical epidemiologists involved in ARI, ILI and SARI surveillance, on 30 May 2014.
On 16th of May 2014 in Macedonia were organized two sentinel training workshops:
• Sentinel ILI Training Workshop.
On the 15th of May 2014 at the Public Health Institute of the Republic of Srpska, BiH in Banja Luka was organized the workshop on SARI Surveillance.
3-5 participants from all 10 hospitals of the Republic of Srpska, BiH, have been invited in the workshop. Due to the enormous floods (they started the day before the workshop) many participants couldn’t attend the workshop. Several participants were late for the same reason (smaller audience in the pictures).
After the welcome speech of the Director of PHI RS, 4 lecturers presented the following presentations:
On May 14th a technical meeting to discuss the possibilities of building a country and regional integrated web based Influenza Information System was organized at the SECID offices - IPH, Tirana, Albania. This activity was planned within the framework of the Project “Surveillance and Response to Avian and pandemic Influenza by National Health Authorities of Countries of South East Europe”.
A Study Visit on influenza surveillance in Serbia was organized from 12th to 14th of May 2014. Montenegro was a participatory country involved in this visit, represented by Dr Bozidarka Rakocevic.
